I forgot to mention.....

My stepson is going to participate in the Iron Man Triathlon in Palm Springs, California in December.  He is only doing the 1/2 Triathlon.   This includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 miles biking, and 13.1 miles run.
It makes me exhausted just typing it.  All I can say is........... Go Billy, Go Billy, Go Billy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have all the faith in the world that he can complete it and most likely place.  Since I've never watched or know anything about it, I hope that I have said it all correctly.
My step daughter will be fly in on the 6th for a visit with her dad.  We will have a good time and a good visit.
That's all that happening in my world today.

What is red???

Now my friends would say your cars and they would be right.  You know how Bill just LOVES to buy new cars.  Well, he did it again.  We have a spanking new 2012 Chevy Cruze.  On Saturday, they had a review of the Cruze in the local paper.  It was stated that it gets 27 and 38 mpg.  I just happened to mention to Bill that I thought that would be a neat car to run around town in as it sure would save on the monthly gas bill.  We went and picked up the car this morning.  Yup, it's red.  Now I have 3 red cars.  Which car will I drive - the red one of course!  Big, medium, and medium small.

I've also been sewing quite a bit in the past couple of days.  I decided that I needed to get rid of the placemats that I usually leave on the kitchen table.  I made a table mat and it really shows off the antique table.  I'm pleased with the results.

The Stack and Whack is still in the putting the pieces together.  Here is a picture of what I have done.  All the border and corner blocks are done.  I'm almost done with the big octagons.  I have about 18 more square blocks to finish yet.
Corner and border units (light colored) with 4 octagons and 2 squares blocks.

I'm off to sew some more octagons and squares so I can get this thing put together.  Catch ya'll later.

Happy Saturday!

It's Saturday morning and I'm not dressed yet.  Well, what else is new?  Today is my day to do as I please.  I've got a million things going around in my head of what to do.  The list is so long that I probably won't do a productive thing.  I'll just have to wait and see what pops up first.
Yesterday my friend Cheryl and I went to Joann's to do a little shopping.  My other friend, Bobbi, had company coming and couldn't join us.  She missed out on some fun.  That will teach her to prefer her company over her friends.......lol.  Anyway, Cheryl found some fabric that will compliment the quilt that she is making.  I found some fabric to make some quilts for the little grandkids for Christmas.  After Joann's we went to Mickey D's for lunch.  Just love their french fries.  After lunch we stopped at Half Priced Books.  I bought a couple more quilting books.  I say you can never have to many books.  Bill would say that you have to many and can't possibly read them all.
I have started a Stack and Whack quilt.  This is the pattern that I'm teaching Cheryl how to do.  I just had to start making one so that I would have answers to any question that she might most definitely will ask.  I need to have the answers in my head so that she will continue to think that I'm the smartest cookie around.   I got her fooled!

Stack and Whack quilt started

I think I know what I might do today.  Change my bedroom around.  Sounds exciting, doesn't it?

It's been awhile

I've been busy doing a lot of things and not necessarily fun things.  The week is starting out not so good.  When Bill got up on Sunday, he noticed that the floor was wet by the kitchen sink.  Come to find out the garbage disposal was leaking.  So a trip to Lowe's to get a new one.  Bill got it installed in no time.  Monday the yard guys were here to cut down a tree.  Bill had noticed that we had a tree that was splitting right down the middle.  I'm not sure if the drought caused it or not.  They cut down the worst part of it and we are hoping that the rest of it will survive.  While the yard guys were here they also removed a few shrubs and plants from the front of the house that had died from lack of water.  Yesterday I mowed the back yard.  This was like I was back on the farm.  The wind was blowing and it blew the dry grass/hay right back at me.  It did smell pretty good though.  I was filthy after I got done, but the yard looks so much better.
The little grandkids were here for a visit on Sunday.  I haven't seen the big granddaughters in quite a while.  I guess they are just busy with school and activities.  It's hard to believe that the oldest will be 17 in a couple of weeks.  Wow, where did the years go.  It seems like she was just a baby.  Now she is a junior in high school.  Pretty soon she will be off to college.  The younger one will be in high school soon.
I haven't done much sewing lately, maybe today.  I bought a couple of sweatshirts to turn into jackets. All I need to do is put a zipper in them and sew some pockets to the inside.  If I would get off the computer and start on them, they would be done within an hour.  With that being said, catch y'all later

Record broken

As you can see it got pretty hot today.  We tied the old record from 1980 of 69 days of 100 degrees.  So today we set our new record of 70 days.  Tomorrow is also suppose to be 100 degrees.  This is one record that I don't want to get near again.
I tried to do my colonoscopy yesterday.  It didn't work out to well.  I started the prep on Sunday.  That make me sick to my stomach, I tried some Magnesium Citrate and I couldn't even swallow that stuff.  I had to cancel it.  I did get to eat yesterday afternoon.  Then I was sick all night.  Today I feel GREAT!
Bill went to Austin today.  He usually leaves the same day of his doctor appointments but decided to go down a day earlier.  This way he will be well rested when he sees the doctors.
My girlfriend came over on Saturday and I was showing/teaching her how to make a Stack and Whack quilt.  She had some beautiful fabric that is perfect for the pattern  she chose to do.  We got it all cut out and she went home singing like a songbird.  Now I want to see her progress on it.  If I don't see any progress I will refuse to help her anymore - YEAH, RIGHT. ..........lol..........
I don't have plans for anything tomorrow.  Well, maybe I do. I should clean house and maybe, just maybe, iron some clothes.  I would rather iron 10 yards of fabric than iron one shirt.  I might have to watch Bill's granddaughter as she is running a fever and can't go to school.  Her dad has a test tomorrow and he shouldn't miss school.
Tanner is telling me he wants to go to bed, it off the computer and get him settled.
Y'all take care... Later

A very long week

A lot has happened since I last posted, so this may be a pretty long post.  Stop now if you don't want to read of my rambling.
My sister-in-law died yesterday.  She was Bill's oldest sister, aged 85.  She had been in poor health for quite a few years, but that didn't stop her from wanting to visit with us.  She always found a way to make it from Pennsylvania to Texas and enjoyed every minute of it.  Helen will be missed by all of her family.
We had the septic cleaned out yesterday.  What a job.  The stupid a$$ builder had buried the cleanout lid.  So that meant we had to hire a mini backhoe to get it dug up.  Got that done and Bill had to go buy an extension pipe to reach the ground level.  Bill's son come over and clean up the yard that was now all messed up from the digging.  It looks almost normal now.
All of this took place while I was away from home.  I spent an enjoyable day out with my girlfriends caressing fabric!  After that we went to lunch at the Olive Garden then on to Half Price Books.
Earlier in the week I had a 'meet & greet' with the doctor who will be doing my colonosopy.  That is scheduled for Sept 12th.  I don't mind the procedure, I just don't want to do the prep.
I finished the Seattle Streets quilt that went to my older Sis.  It was mailed out yesterday, she should have it by Tuesday (because of the holiday weekend).
Tanner thought that I wanted a picture of him so he posed for me.  The 'mess' on the upper right is a king size pineapple scrap quilt for my bed.

The first 3 rows are sewn together, I just need to find the time the finish it up.  I will post pictures when I am done.  The pattern is from Bonnie Hunter's website:  http://www.quiltville.com/ .  Can you tell I've got a ton of scraps and my goal is to use them up.  Fabric is getting to expensive for my taste and I do have quite a bit in my stash.
That's it on my week, hope everyone had a better one!
