Good Saturday morning

Saturday morning and the heat is still on.  Why oh why didn't someone turn that blasted oven off?  They must have left it on 350 degrees!  One good thing is that if we weren't in this heat wave, I wouldn't have to much to talk about.
My morning started off pretty good.  I got to see Jake this morning.  At 13 months old he is sooooooo cute.  He gave me such a big hug this morning and held on to me so tight, I thought that I would have finger bruises on my arm.  His big sister came over so that I could fix her hair.  She has an audition in the Big D for a top name studio.  I think it's for an ad or something.  I didn't get all the details.  Anyway, the kids were a nice change for this old couple today!
I've got so many project lined up in my head that I just don't know where to start.  What I think  I will do is quilt some tops that I have already finished.  That will get some stuff out of here.  But then there is this new pattern that I printed off that I just might have to do before I get to the quilt tops.  Now everyone knows why I get nothing done.  It takes me forever to figure out exactly what to do.
Here are pictures of the Kindle holder that I made.  I used a vinyl or pleather to make it which made it a bit bulky  It fits and works just fine.  Maybe I'll make another one with my kind of fabric.  Yup, another thing to do......

The heat wave is still with us - 23 days and counting.....

The forecast for the week have us 106 to 103.
I didn't get to go fabric shopping on Thursday.  My one girlfriend was very sick and my other girlfriend and I decided that we couldn't go without her!  GET WELL SOON.  Fabric is calling us...
I have been absent in posting over the weekend.  It's been so hot that I don't feel like doing anything.  Sweetie took me out on Sunday.  He wanted to take me to a casino that I like but he doesn't.  Wasn't that nice of him to think of me!  Anyway, we were there for about 1/2 hour and he hit a jackpot on a slot machine.  He insisted that I take half of his winnings to use as I want. I only took enough to buy something that isn't what I need but what I want.  I bought a Kindle today.  I've been wanting one for quite awhile and have done tons of research on which one that my pocketbook could afford.  I got the Kindle 3G wireless on sale at Best Buy with a $30 gift card included.  The 3G means that it will pick up a wifi signal and I won't have to be in a wireless spot - like Starbucks or McDonalds.  I haven't even had a chance to use it because it seems like Sweetie has taken it over.  I did go on Amazon and got a monthly subscription to the local paper for him.  The Kindle will also read to you.  It has text to speech enabled.  That part is pretty good especially if I get a book with big words in it.  It also has a dictionary that I can look up the words.
I'm currently making a case for it.  Whenever I get it done, I will post a picture.

Another little project done

I wasn't sleepy last night so I started and finished a little project that I had put off for almost a year.  One day last year when I was in Joann's fondling fabric, I came across the purse accessory section.  I saw a small change purse frame and I figured I could make one of those.  So I bought the frame and it has been sitting in the purse junk basket all this time.  The directions said it would take about 1 1/2 hours to make.  Not bad, I'm wide awake.  It took me 15 minutes from picking out fabric to putting stuff inside the finished change purse.
Can you tell that red is my favorite color??

I didn't do much today, just the usual.  Tomorrow is my fabric shopping day and I will be gone all day and be tired when I get home and ready to take a short nap.
Catch y'all later tomorrow.

Purse done

Front of bag with pocket

I finished the purse that I started last night.  I got it all cut out and decided to start sewing it today.  The original pattern (here:  http://sweetbeebuzzings.blogspot.com  )  for the small bag/tote is 10 1/2" H x 4" D x 10" W.  Mine is 7" H x 2" D x 8 1/2" W.  I don't like a large purse but loved this pattern so I just reduced it.  I also like to use it over my head/chest (the strap that is) because it gives me more security.  But if I want to use it over the shoulder I just have to unclasp the strap and hook it on the other side.  Here are to many pictures of it:

That is about all that I've done today.  I did make Sweetie steak and salad for dinner with Jello for dessert.  How's that for a HOT summer day's meal.

Another day, another quilt

I finished the oldest granddaughter's quilt today.  It's not a quilt to keep warm, it's to snuggle with.  I had gone thorough my scraps a couple of months ago and used my Go! cutter to cut up the scraps into useable shapes.  With the bigger pieces I cut the tumbler blocks.  I had a bunch of them and that's what I used to make the quilt.  I left the sides 'natural' and didn't even them off.  But dummy me should have sewn the back to the front, right sides together then turn it right side out THEN quilt it.  I didn't think of that until I was binding it.  Oh well, maybe next time.  The size is 40' x 58'.

Sweetie took me to the Casino yesterday.  I did win (not a bunch) and saved some money for my fabric shopping trip on Thursday with the girls.
It has just been unbearable lately.  Today it's been humid (39%).  I know that it isn't that high for say someone living in Florida but it's high here.  It got up to 104 today.  AND no end in sight.  I guess I'll just stay home and not venture out in this weather.
I'm going to try to make a new purse.  I've got a pattern that I reduced by 25%.  It still looked to big so I took that one and reduced it down 15% more.  It may or may not be small enough.  I will just have to see how it comes out.  I'm outa here to cut some fabric for my new purse.

Same old......

Same old stuff going on here.  It's hot.  Weather bug says it's 107.  I think it's more like 120.
I've given up on my plants.  My biggest cucumber died.  I don't think the other ones will make it either.  I've stopped watering some of my flowers.  The only ones I water are the petunias in the hanging baskets.  They seem to be doing okay.  The ones that are doing great are the Christmas cactus and the cactus like thing my big brother gave to me.  They must think they are in the Mojave Desert.
Next week I'm going out with my girlfriends fabric shopping.  It's about time.  Can't wait because we always have so much fun.  They do the talking and I do the driving.
I worked a little on my big granddaughter's quilt.  The one she wants to replace is a Sunbonnet Sue that I made for her about 10 years ago.  At least she wore it out and didn't just put it in the closet and forget about it, so I'm happy to make a replacement.  No, it's not a Sunbonnet quilt!
That's about all that is going on around here, catch y'all later

A new me!

My personal hairdresser came over this afternoon. (Nice to have one that married your son)  She did miracles with her scissors.  I almost look like a boy (yes it's short, my Mom would have been thrilled that it's this short)  ..................   I love it.  With temps over 100 every day, it will be a welcomed cool.  Maybe I'll take a picture of my new do and post it, but not tonight.
Nothing exciting happening today.  I take that back.  The repairman came and fixed my washer.  I've already done one load of clothes.  Now that's excitement.  Sweetie went to Austin today.  Doesn't have to go back for 3 months.  He got stronger meds and hopefully they will help him.
I'm so looking forward to going fabric shopping in the near future, maybe next week.

Cool Air

We got the a/c fixed on Sunday.  The price was reasonable so no complaints there AND my sewing room is cool again.
We had to take Bennie to the vets again yesterday.  He still has a lot of trouble standing up.  The vet said that he has an extra large lipoma tumor.   It feels like the size of a grapefruit.  The location is where his leg meets his underside..  hope that makes sense.  He got some meds to take and was taken off the steroids.  (Another couple hundred spent)  He seems to be okay today.

Bennie
Remember when I made the armchair caddy for the remote because Tanner would 'retrieve' it, well I had to make a flap to cover the remote because Tan got it.  It took him less than 1 day to lift the flap and 'retrieve' the remote.  I guess I'll just toss the caddy because Tanner is smarter than me!
My pepper plants:  I had 4 peppers growing pretty good.  Now I have none.  They all dropped off.  Boo hoo...............  I'm no farmer, that's for sure.

The end of the peppers!

My cumcumbers:  I've still got some, yeah.............

I did get to finish at least one baby quilt last night (I want to make two) .  It's a tumbler block rag quilt.  I cut the tumbers out with my Go! cutter.  Easy, fast, and accurate cuts.  Anyway, I made it out of flannel.  After I got all the seam allowance snipped so it would fray, I put it in the washer to help it fray out.  After it went through the wash cycle and before the rinse, it started to make a metal on metal sound.  I think that my washer died................  Here are some pictures of the quilt.  Not quite all the way frayed out.

Y'all have a happy day today.

I'm here

I haven't blogged lately because I've been kinda busy.  Then yesterday as I am sewing it's getting hotter and hotter in my sewing room.  When it's real hot out it can get up to 80 in here.  I looked at the thermometer and it was 88.  Now that's hot.  The a/c was on and I couldn't figure out why the heat wave.  After a little investigating, we found that the one a/c was not working.  We have two a/c units.  One cools the bedrooms and the other cools the rest of the house.  It was very cool in the bedrooms last night and I'm glad that the a/c was working in that part of the house.  Anyway, the guy will be here today to fix it.  Since it is Sunday I can only imagine the price we will have to pay for some cool air!  This 100 - 104 degrees everyday is kinda making me in a bad mood.  Catch y'all later.

Quietness

It's seems real quiet tonight compared to last night.  It was like a big competition to see who had the loudest, highest, and the most fireworks in their possession last night.  I believe they all spent their paychecks on fireworks.  Anyway......
I worked on the Fans and Flower quilt today

Fans & Flowers showing half of it
I have to make more leaves.  I do freezer paper applique.  First I trace the leaf pattern on freezer paper and then cut it out.  Next I iron the paper on to the fabric, cut out the shape 1/4" larger than the paper, then use washable glue stick and fold the fabric over onto the paper.  I know I didn't make any sense to some of you but it's a little bit easier to do than to type how I do it.  Anyway, I have to do maybe 30 more leaves. And they are a pain to do!  Here's a picture of my helper.

Tanner watching out the window.
I'm going to put the Fans and Flowers quilt to the side for a couple of weeks because I need to make a couple of baby quilts.  Need to do this as soon as possible because the baby will be a teenager if I don't! My peppers are getting bigger, I still have 4 of them.  The cucumbers are still small but growing slowly.

I just wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th.

Day not as planned

It didn't go exactly like I wanted, but I certainly got a lot done today.  Did laundry, cleaned house, and did a little sewing.  But, again, not what I wanted to sew.  I get so tired of Tanner taking the remote and hiding it that I decided to make an armchair remote caddy.  The next big question is whether Sweetie will remember to put the remote in it when he's done.
He pretends to be a Retriever but is a thief!

Doesn't look to bad, does it?

With those teeth marks, Tanner can't deny he did it.

Hoping that this is Tanner proof.

Missed posting

Sorry about missing last night's post.  By the time I got back from the airport I was too tired to get on the computer.
We all went golfing AGAIN yesterday morning (6:45am).  Me, Sweetie, Sweetie Jr., and my boy (sorry - man) got through the hot day.  My boy shot a 96, Sweetie shot 98, Sweetie Jr. doesn't keep count, and me with a 104 for 17 holes.  I didn't play the last hole because I absolutely hate it.  There is water on the left and it just seems like my ball always wants to go for a swim.  If it's to cool for a swim then my ball wants to hide in the woods.  That's why I skip it.  I'm driving my ball much farther and straighter since Sweetie bought me a Callaway Titanium Big Bertha club.  I just love that club.  I can hit it about 175 yards, not bad for this mature lady!  Most holes I can get on the green in 2 then it all falls apart because I end up 4/5 putting it.  After golf we all ate lunch at the clubhouse then went home and to the SHOWER.  After that I was too tired to do anything.  The little kids came over to see their Uncle Sweetie Jr.  We left for the airport around 7 and got back home at 9.  Long day it was, so no sewing got done.  No house cleaning either.
So far today I've done not a thing.  I guess I'll get off of this computer, get dressed, put a load of laundry in, clean house then I can sew.  Sweetie wants to go someplace (don't know where).
